Last night was awesome. Got to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine before release...legally. Thanks, cracksh0t for the free ticket. On a side note, the Ziegfeld Theatre was amazing.
Despite all of the awesome last night, Jordan and I agreed the movie was terrible. But, we both felt good knowing we didn't pay money to see it. I would go into detail about what parts were bad, but it'd take me a while to look up the LJ cut HTML tag and I have to get ready for work.
Before the movie started, Joe Quesada came out to talk to everyone. The man was manic. He really got the crowd pumped. He then said it was his pleasure to introduce Hugh Jackman. The spotlight raced around the theatre for a few moments before Quesada jokingly said a disgruntled former editor must've "punk'd" him. He really had me for a moment.
More about last night coming soon. Also, I've been trying to work on a long series of entries letting people know how things have been since 2008 as I almost never update this thing anymore. A lot has happened.
Spoilers: Nick is still single and Nick is not a father. There, I answered the questions that are almost always in someone's mind when someone else says "a lot has happened." |

So, I got Resident Evil 5 on Friday and tried my first online two-player experience today. I was hooked. If anyone wants to partner up with me over the Intarwebs, I use the PS3 version (Yeah, I know I'm in the minority, here). Just send me an e-mail, voice-mail, Facebook message, LJ comment, whatever, giving me your username on the Playstation Network and I'll give you mine. |

When I was at a crossroads in my life a while ago, drscottc suggested I draw up a list of life goals. If one of my choices made it difficult or impossible to pursue some of these goals, I should go with the other choice instead. I realized a new goal while I was on Time Magazine's website tonight. Preparing to vote for Stephen Colbert against his archrival ("RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!"), I happened upon the bio of another Time 100 Finalist, eccentric Vigin CEO Richard Branson. Something in the biography stood out:

Okay, text is tiny. Needs moar EPIC ZOOM.

MOAR ZOOM.

Yeah, that's right. Time Magazine's official listing of Branson's occupation is not just being an executive at Virgin; he's a DEFIER OF DEATH. Now, I've heard all about Branson's penchant for pulling crazy stunts, but I didn't know that officially is part of his résumé. This is going to be a new goal. Even if I wind up going over to a guy in a Grim Reaper costume on Halloween and saying "No!" to him, I must find a way to be able to put "Defier of Death" under my job title for a 1040 before I die (or if I die in the process of doing this, make it so my next of kin can write this down on the 1040 for me). |

You know, usually I think physical comedy is dumb. It's one step above fart jokes (and that's a realm not even I lower myself to). However, this is very lulzworthy.

Warning: Taking the weekend off in a place that's a black zone for my cell (Read: I've gone to my hometown). Those who know my home phone number are encouraged to use it if they need to get ahold of me for anything (or if a certain someone has BANZAI'D his way in from Iraq). |

The self-titled "skinny guy with a funny name" took Iowa. The guy I was rooting for won. This is awesome. I have nothing left to say. Just wanted to point out the obvious. |

My Hard Drive's life just flashed before its eyes right as I was about to save my webcomic script. Currently, it seems to have come back from the dead. Time to back shit up like a mofo. Holy fuck. |

SU lost. To Ohio State :(
In more upbeat news, I got accepted to Newhouse's NYC trip last night. I might actually have a little bit of free time, so if anyone's around December 16-21 maybe we could chill for a bit. |

Just bought Volume 1 of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen at Barnes & Noble for "research purposes." And all I got to say is...wow, this is so much better than the movie. Wilhelmina and Quartermain are so much more fleshed out and work very well as each other's foils. I snickered a little at the Moby Dick "Call me Ishmael" reference at the beginning of Chapter 4. Also, the belittling mock-Victorian tone the entire book takes puts a little smile on my face as I go from chapter to chapter.
To put it simply: If you hate the movie, read the graphic novels. You'll find in here everything the movie glossed over and so much more. |

I just realized today that my iPod is two months past its extended warranty and yet it still works fine. That officially makes it the sturdiest Apple purchase I've ever made.
(Probably because it doesn't have the iBook's notoriously bad and rushed-out-to-market POS motherboards) |

An old couple approached me here in the restaurant just now. In a very long, drawn-out sort of way (Seriously, the question took about 30 seconds to utter), they asked me how I can connect to the Internet through my laptop in here. I held back from sarcastically (and meme-ishly) saying, "Through a series of tubes. Contrary to popular belief, the Internet is not carried by a big truck." (Though it was the perfect opportunity) Instead, I simply said "I have a Wi-Fi card." Yeah, it was a little curt and dick-ish still, but I do get annoyed at anyone/everyone above the age of 45 constantly asking me lots of questions about anything computer-related. |
